New Feeder Designs for LCWoodworks

Below are conceptual designs by Jim Shreiner of LCWoodworks. All designs are based on feeder dimensions of 12" tall by 24" wide, a common size for large dogs like golden retrievers or german shepards. The designs are created with CAD software, so the dimensions of the legs, skirt, and top are proportionately accurate.

Feeder 1

The feeder is of a traditional, rich, tasteful design. The back and sides of the feeder are pieces of solid wood, while the face design is shown in the picture. The face frame is standard rail and stile construction. The face panel is a 1/4" piece of plywood recessed into the frame. The center "Diamond" medallion is accented with a complimentary style drawer knob.

Feeder 2

This feeder is similar to feeder 1. The face frame is standard rail and stile construction, however, the face is raised panel rather than recessed.

Feeder 3

This feeder is mostly influenced by LCW's Chatham Style feeder. The noticeable differences of this feeder are the height of the face frame, sides, and back, and the wainscot or beadboard face frame panel. The face frame is approximately two inches taller than feeders 1 & 2, which gives this feeder a heavier, more robust feel.

Feeder 4

This is a variation of LCW's Classic Style feeder. The only difference between the two is a decorative 3/16" lip at the bottom of the face, sides, and back. The lip adds more dimension and interest to the skirt of the feeder. This feeder is a less expensive option for pet owners. In addition, the feeder can be produced in smaller sizes to accommodate smaller pets.

Feeder 5

This is a classic style feeder with taller face and side pieces. The additional height of the face and side pieces give this feeder a more substantial, chunkier look.

Feeder 6

This feeder is another variation of a classic, table design. The main difference with this feeder is that the legs are attached to the inside of the face and side pieces. This gives the feeder a more rustic look. The face and side pieces can be adjusted in height for a different look.

Feeder 7

This is the same feeder as no. 6, except decorative trim is added to the base of the face and side pieces and the top is routed with at table-top edge. Like no. 6, the height of the face and side pieces can be changed to show different looks.

Feeder 8

This "crate" style feeder is one of the most adaptable styles for different designs. The feeder in the picture is shown with 3" wide slats with 1/4" spaces between. The slats can easily be replaced with beadboard, a raised panel, a recessed panel, lattice or diagonal strips, a weave or checkerboard pattern, or virtually any creative design. The lower legs of this feeder can be curved to give a different look (such as the lower right leg) or remain straight (as the lower left leg). The feeder can be constructed with a removable top to provide storage underneath.

Feeder 9

This feeder has a similar look to no. 8, but it contains four legs with face and side frames between the legs - no. 8 has four sides connected to each other. This feeder has the same design versatility as no. 8 (slats can be replaced with beadboard, panels, etc.). The main advantage of this style of feeder is that it can be constructed so that the face frame is hinged and can be opened like a door. The hinge can be placed at the bottom of the frame and the door opens from the top. Or, the face can be split into two doors where the hinges are attached to the legs and the doors open from the middle.
